Habitat Enhancement

The Salmon Arm Club looks after Caribou and Cummings Lakes in the Sicamous Area located about 25 km up Yard Creek.  The lakes are at around the 5000 foot level and are four wheel drive only access, so don't get too much traffic or upkeep.  The lakes were stocked with Rainbow Trout around 1938 by locals and still have lots of small fish that are easy to catch.

Every spring we go in a clear the trails to the lakes with power saws and clean up the garbage from the camp sites.  Volunteers cut fire wood, paint picnic tables, and paint outhouses.  With the 8 to 10 feet of snow these sites get there, there is always lots of work to do.  The steel fire pit rings are maintained so campers will use them instead of building fires in the open.  The work party for these sites start in the middle of June and go to September.  We work for half the day and then go fishing.

Attend a Club Meeting to find out the dates for work parties or phone Stan Heitman at (250) 836-4309.
